Who can apply?

OT’s, PT’s and Speech-Language Pathology students or practitioners who are committed to working in low-performing schools to select, implement, and evaluate technology interventions for children with disabilities.

What is this opportunity?

The R2D2 Center is hosting an innovative training program utilizing evidence-based practices to address the shortage of highly-qualified related service personnel specially trained to utilize technology interventions (i.e., assistive technology, instructional technology, and universal design for learning) for children (birth to 21) with low incidence disabilities. Applications are being accepted for:

Level 1: Scholars will be provided AT awareness level skills

Upon finishing Level 1, students will have completed the following requirements:

  • OCCTHPY 620 – Introduction to Assistive Technology and Rehabilitation Technology
  • For OT students: OCCTHPY 326 – Occupational Therapy in Pediatrics I, and OCCTHPY 426 – Occupational Therapy in Pediatrics II.
  • For CSD students: COMSDIS 210 – Survey of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and COMSDIS 715 – Assessment and Intervention in AAC.
  • Encouraged to apply for national and state license as well as WI DPI AT license (#858)

Instruction begins Spring/Summer 2015.

Level 2: Scholars will receive advanced skills related to integration of technology interventions

  • Current OT/SLP/PT practitioners have the option to complete the ETI courses online.

Prerequisite course: OCCTHPY 620: Intro to Assistive Technology

Upon finishing Level 2, students will have completed the following requirements1:

  • EXCED 765 AT Service Delivery in Schools)
  • OCCTHPY 625 Design and Disability
  • OCCTHPY 770 Assessment in AT
  • OCCTHPY 760 AT and Rehab Technology
  • Masters level Project or Masters level Thesis
  • Apply for national and state license as well as WI DPI AT license (#858)

[1]: 2-year full-time employment payback working in school-based related services for children with disabilities – you have up to five years after graduation to begin fulfillment of this requirement.

2015 Anticipated compensation per scholar: $8,000 to $16,000 total, including iPad

Instruction begins Summer 2015.
