3d motion tracking model of a person with crutchesAn opening exists at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the Gait Analysis and Biodynamics Laboratory (GABL) jointly in the Center for Ergonomics and the Rehabilitation Research Design and Disability (R2D2) Center for a graduate project assistant. The position is funded by NIDRR Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center: Technologies for Children with Orthopedic Disabilities.  This research will develop and apply a musculoskeletal model to investigate shoulder joint dynamics of children with severe orthopedic disabilities. It is anticipated that the biomechanical, functional, and transitional findings of this study will direct improvements in rehabilitative treatment, intervention and therapeutic management for children with severe orthopedic disabilities.

The PA position is annually funded for 33% time and includes tuition, stipend and benefits.  This work could lead to a Master’s or Doctorate Thesis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SIMM shoulder modelB.S. or M.S. in engineering, occupational therapy, physical therapy, kinesiology, or other related field
  • Research interests related to musculoskeletal modeling, biomechanics, rehabilitation engineering, and/or pediatric mobility
  • Research experience with musculoskeletal modeling a plus
  • Software knowledge of OpenSim, SIMM, Matlab, and Vicon a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Potential for refereed publications
